Foods to help you De-Bloat

Hope everyone is having a great week! In honor of our engagement photos this weekend, I thought I would share some tips and tricks to de-bloat so you can look and feel your best for a big event! These tips are not meant to help you drop weight drastically, but it has been proven that some foods naturally can help eliminate bloating. Even the thinnest person can react to certain fruits and veggies and have a little belly bloat. 

I have been working with a personal trainer and doing yoga for the past three months to meet my goals for the wedding. My wedding is officially a year away (woo!) and I wanted to make sure my toning is sustainable and will not just be a quick fix for the wedding. This is why I am starting so early and working my butt off as if my wedding was a month away. I do want to see changes by my wedding day, but I want these changes to last long after this day. It was important to me to work with a trainer because I have always felt like group fitness classes don't push my body in a way that causes drastic change. They are AWESOME supplements to weight training, but I realized it should not be my main form of exercise. My trainer has been so awesome in teaching me proper form and keeping me accountable for my goals. We lift twice a week and then I get homework from her to do on the other days. I supplement this schedule with some hot yoga and running. This is something that works for me and keeps me happy while working out, but every person is different. I have a few friends who are obsessed with barre for example and look INCREDIBLE from barre. I think the biggest point I am trying to make here is to find what makes you happy so you are more likely to keep up with it, but also make sure you have variety so you can keep your muscles guessing because this ultimately is what creates change. Listening to your body is going to make the most impact. I am shorter and can hold weight easier so I need to make sure I am lifting to tone, but incorporating cardio to shed fat. For such a long time I would see someone who was so in shape and think I should be doing exactly the same thing and I will look amazing. In reality, we had very different body types so the exercises that were perfect for them were doing nothing for me and causing me to be too hard on myself. A trainer can help tailor plans towards your body type so you are able to see the results just as fast as you would expect.

Rambling over! Three months in and I have already started to see changes, and I am so happy I have because I feel amazing going into our engagement photos. While I am not 100% there I know I would still look back on these photos and cherish them forever. Now I am someone who bloats easily, so this week I am making sure to keep things as clean as possible and be very mindful of the fruits and veggies I eat to avoid any unwanted bloating. My dress is not forgiving so I need my tummy to be naturally flat Saturday ;).

Here are some great fruits and veggies to eat to naturally de-bloat:

1. Lemon

2. Ginger

3. Cucumber

4. Asparagus

5. Bananas

6. Grapefruit

7. Sweet Potatoes

8. Spinach

 

Foods I will avoid include:

1. Apples

2. Salty foods

3. Legumes

4.  Broccoli 

5. Dairy

6. Wheat

 

It is important to note the foods I will avoid are not permanent and you do not need to cut them out far in advance. I will just make sure to not eat these foods 2 days before the photos so I feel my best.  The foods on the avoid list still provide so many nutrients so they should absolutely not be cut out in your regular diet. Again, do what is best for you and eat the foods that can cause bloating in moderation before your big day!
